We celebrate not the birth of a baby

. . .But the incarnation of God! Emmanuel: God with us!

And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2: 8-11

Our King and Judge

He reigns! While we celebrate the first coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and His birth, we must remember that though He became as us, He has always been and will always be the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Even now, He is ruling and reigning bringing all things into subjection until that grand and glorious day when He comes again! And this time, it will not be as meek and lowly infant offering salvation to all who will repent and believe, but as the righteous judge.  Are you ready to meet Him?
Thou Who Wast Rich Beyond All Splendor
(Click the title for a beautiful rendition of this hymn)
Thou who wast rich beyond all splendor,
All for love’s sake becamest poor;
Thrones for a manger didst surrender,
Sapphire-paved courts for stable floor.
Thou who wast rich beyond all splendor,
All for love’s sake becamest poor.
Thou who art God beyond all praising,
All for love’s sake becamest man;
Stooping so low, but sinners raising
Heavenward by thine eternal plan.
Thou who art God beyond all praising,
All for love’s sake becamest man.
Thou who art love beyond all telling,
Saviour and King, we worship thee.
Emmanuel, within us dwelling,
Make us what thou wouldst have us be.
Thou who art love beyond all telling,
Saviour and King, we worship thee.

This project was for a tea at our church. As hostess for one of the tables (a cowboy themed table of course!), I wrapped up the ornaments that were being given in little packages and used Our Daily Bread Designs Stamps to decorate the inside card and outside tag.

As a closing note, this is my last project as a member of the ODBD Challenge Team.  I have been so blessed to serve for two years and will so miss the daily chats with my "sister sticks" and our "boss lady" Kelley. I am most thankful for all of the behind the scenes encouragement as well as the encouragement from our faithful ODBD supporters and sisters in Christ.  It has been a joy to serve and I look forward to seeing and encouraging the new Challenge Team members! Blessings!

Instead of making a card with a fancy or alternative fold, I opted for something a bit different. . .a tea light gift set. I started with making a box for tags and then saw this clever pattern for a folding tree (SplitCoast Stampers Tutorials) and decided that's what the box would hold. Once the tree is disassembled and folded flat, the card layers on top, followed by the insert with the angled "Merry Christmas" and topped with the tea light.

For assembly, everything is removed from the box, which is turned upside down. Then, the white panel is inserted into the card and both are placed a top the box. The card then becomes the "skirt" and platform for the tree, beginning with the tea light "trunk" upon which the tree rests, followed by the topper (two brads glued together on a toothpick.) It all came together well, thanks to the ODBD's beautiful paper, stamps and dies!

With Thanksgiving approaching, it's time to get my table decorations in order that amid all of the food, we might be reminded as to Who and what is really most important. Of course, we are to be thankful at all times, not just one day a year, rejoicing in the Lord's provision and watch care, even when things aren't going as we expect. It's not as if the omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient Creator, who is even now, sustaining all things, is surprised or caught off guard. He has foreordained whatsoever shall come to pass for the eternal good of His people, and His ultimate glory. So, for those who are trusting in Christ, let us be quick to praise Him with grateful hearts for He has given us the greatest blessing of all!

The basis for this project is a 6x6 tile that I recruited into service as the background and backing.

Time With Jan Marie . . .

 Charm is deceitful and beauty is fleeting,
but a woman who fears the Lord is greatly to be praised.
Proverbs 31:30

As I was working on my outward appearance one morning, scraping the last little bit of foundation from the compact, I started to toss the container and then stopped. It was a perfectly good little compact: surely it could be re-purposed. And, looking back to the mirror, the scripture above came to mind. What better use than to convert it to something that seeks to build up and encourage not by outward means, but through the renewing of one’s mind with the precious Word of God?

And that’s the story of how this little “makeup kit” came to be.

Makeup Bag

I modified a backpack template that’s been around a awhile by making it a bit wider and then trimmed the top so it was more rectangular.

The flap was modified also and made with a scallop circle die as shown in the photo.

Stamp and color BEFORE folding and trimming. Fold and adhere the main pouch, then measure, fold and adhere the top flap. Use a magnet or Velcro to keep the flap closed.

Compact

Clean the compact thoroughly. Select dies that are the correct size for the compact you're using and check the fit before starting.

The circle and scallop circle ODBD Recipe Tag dies were used for the decoration topping the compact and the inside scripture  stack.They were augmented with other Spellbinders dies as necessary.

To make the Scripture Stack, accordion-fold your paper of choice being sure that height (from fold to fold) is slightly smaller than the height of your die.  Otherwise you’ll end up with lots of pretty circles rather than an accordion fold stack. (See photo and think paper dolls or snowflakes!)
Tip: If you're using heavy card stock, limit your folds to two or three and make multiple sets that you adhere together. Otherwise the stack may be too thick to cut properly.

Next, test how you want the stack to open and mark the top and bottom panel. Decorate the stack as desired.

Adhere the bottom panel to the base of the compact using Scoretape.

Next adhere the decorative topper.

Finish off the inside of the lid if desired or required (the compact I used did not have a removable label and sanding would have marred the finish.)

Put the compact in the makeup bag, and you have a sweet little package of encouragement for a friend.

Thanks for stopping by and may the Lord bless you!

The theme of this week's challenge is "Fall" and when I think of fall, I think of the time change that occurs in most parts of the United States, so I made a card that's a little different than a traditional "fall" card. . .perhaps it should be called a "fall back" card!  Funny thing is that we don't "fall back" or "spring forward" in my sunny, little corner of the world. We are always on AZ time! Regardless of where one lives, time seems to pass so quickly. I found this hymn by our nation's sixth President, John Quincy Adams, written in 1839.

Alas! how swift the moments fly!

How flash the years along!

Scarce here, yet gone already by,
The burden of a song.
See childhood, youth, and manhood pass,
And age, with furrowed brow;
Time was—Time shall be—drain the glass—
But where in Time is now?

Time is the measure but of change;
No present hour is found;
The past, the future, fill the range
Of Time’s unceasing round.
Where, then is now? In realms above,
With God’s atoning Lamb,
In regions of eternal love,
Where sits enthroned I AM.

Then pilgrim, let thy joys and tears
On Time no longer lean;
But henceforth all thy hopes and fears
From earth’s affections wean:
To God let votive accents rise;
With truth, with virtue, live;
So all the bliss that Time denies
Eternity shall give.

-THE HOUR-GLASS

Words: John Q. Adams; sixth president of the United States
Written for the 200th anniversary of the First Congregational Church in Quincy, Massachusetts, September 29, 1839.
