Clouds or sunshine. . .

To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven.
Ecclesiastes 3:1

Sunny days or cloudy days; a season to rejoice, a season to mourn,. . .a time for every purpose under the heavens. . .just as the Lord has ordained.  May you bask in the light of the Lord this day and may you look forward to that eternal day when clouds and sun will be no more!
 "And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb." Revelation 21:23

When the Roll is Called Up Yonder
James Black, 1893

When the trumpet of the Lord shall sound, and time shall be no more,
And the morning breaks, eternal, bright and fair;
When the saved of earth shall gather over on the other shore,
And the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there.

On that bright and cloudless morning when the dead in Christ shall rise,
And the glory of His resurrection share;
When His chosen ones shall gather to their home beyond the skies,
And the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there.

Let us labor for the Master from the dawn till setting sun,
Let us talk of all His wondrous love and care;
Then when all of life is over, and our work on earth is done,
And the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there.

All Things Lovely. . .

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Philippians 4:8

If this scripture is familiar, that's because you saw it right here last week! But, no apologies as we can NEVER think too often of our Lord (who alone meets all the criterion set forth in this directive: true, honorable, just, commendable, lovely, excellent and worthy of praise).

So this day, if you're struggling and if your mind is wandering down the dark, fearful path of "what if", take those thoughts captive to Christ, as we are commanded to do. Don't allow yourself to be controlled by your emotions, but with right thinking, biblical thinking, turn those thoughts to the paths of righteousness, the bright path where the light of the Lord shines as the noon day sun! Remember that He gave Himself for you (if you are trusting in Christ alone for your eternal salvation) and He himself said that not a single one of His will perish or be plucked from His hand. Remember that He who can calm the sea, often brings the storm that knocks us from little boat of self-sufficiency, not that we might drown, but that we might be made more like Him and that we might trust Him even more fully. He is in control of ALL things. . .as the disciples were reminded in Mark 4:35-41 and Matthew 8:23-27. If this is your situation today, click here for an encouraging rebuke from Pastor Alistair Begg, Truth for Life Ministries: Jesus Calms the Storm.

Think on these things. . .

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Philippians 4:8

Whenever this passage comes to mind, in my little head all of the "whatevers" are replaced with "whoever." As in, whoever is noble, pure, lovely admirable, commendable, excellent, worthy of praise. . .and there is only One that I can think of who meets these qualitifications: our Lord! What a comfort that is and what a refreshment to my soul knowing that Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday, today and forever, and these attributes contained in the Philippians passage are His in infinite measure (is that an oxymoron!?!) and eternally! How blessed are those who take refuge in Him. . .all the pretty, glittery things of the world grow dim in the presence of the Light of the World!

Passing away or eternally alive?

The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the
will of God lives forever. 1 John 2:17
This scripture seems to imply that we can earn eternal life by doing what God requires. . .but that's not what the rest of Scripture teaches. . nor what this passage in its context teaches either. There is only One who has fulfilled the will of the Father perfectly, and that One, is the Lord Jesus Christ. We can never trust our own works, which the Lord says are like filthy rags (to put it politely). We can only trust the works of Jesus: His life of perfect obedience to the Father, to the point of death on the cross after enduring the Father's wrath for the sins of all who will believe. We are not, and cannot ever be, through works of our own, good enough to merit eternal life. Jesus, however is and He offers this perfect righteousness to all who will repent and believe. If you want to learn more and to read what God says, please click on the Good News tab above. . .

ODBD Shining the Light Challenge #112

Since it is officially summer in the USA this week, the Our Daily Bread Designs’ Challenge team wants to see your summer-themed projects. They can include gardening, boats, and etc….anything related to a summer activity.

One of my favorite summer activities is relaxing with my husband under the canopy of trees in our yard as the sun is setting, meditating on the goodness of the Lord and watching the dragon flies flit about the pasture (as the cats chase them in their attempt to snag a tasty treat). This card reflects that peaceful time.

To make the challenge even more fun, we will be giving out a $15 gift certificate to be used toward stamps at the Our Daily Bread Designs store!! And, if you use Our Daily Bread Designs stamps, we will again be choosing one to two creations to spotlight for our Shining the Light Award.
