CHACB Challenge #1: What's Your Style?

Gloria Designs Challenge Our very first challenge at Craft Hoarders Anonymous is to share a project that showcases your signature style. Dig into your hoard and pull out items that make you shout with crafty joy! Whip up something that has your creative name all over it. Do you, because no one is "youer" than you! And one talented participant will receive a prize for their work donated by Gloria Stengel Designs.

You have one week remaining to prepare and submit your project by linking up at the CHAC Blog

The deadline for linking up is Sunday, Jan. 16 at midnight PST.

From the Stash

The challenge is to craft a project that best represents your own style. It took me a couple of tries to find the real me. When I took the first card in to show my beloved husband (and he truly is!), he looked a bit perplexed and said, "This is different. It's not your usual style." So, besides the Lord, there is someone who knows me better than I know myself! :-) Back to the crafting table. .and came out with this, which met with my Beloved's approval: it's me! Or more accurately, it's my style! So thankful to the Lord for my godly and wise husband!

I am also thankful for God's Word and the sustaining power of His Holy Spirit, made possible because of the work of our Lord Jesus Christ! I am thankful for His sustenance in the daily things of life, including life itself. Yet that all pales in comparison to how He sustains my soul, and will throughout all eternity! Thankful that my place is secured not by my work, but by His and that I am preserved in grace, not by my grip, but by His!

That's my style. Now it's your turn to show yours!

Calling all hoarders (of craft supplies!)

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. Psalm 139:4

Gloria Designs Challenge
Craft supply hoarders get ready: today is the day! The first challenge for the Gloria Stengel Designs Craft Hoarders Anonymous Challenge Blog kicks off today!

CHACB Challenge #1: What's Your Style?

As the scripture above indicates, you are fearfully and wonderfully made by the Lord and you are unique, with talents, skills, and gifts that are to be used for His glory. . .show us what He has given you and how, by His grace, you have developed and refined the gifts He so graciously has given.
Our very first challenge at Craft Hoarders Anonymous is to share a project that showcases your signature style. Dig into your hoard and pull out items that make you shout with crafty joy! Whip up something that has your creative name all over it. Do you, because no one is "youer" than you! And one talented participant will receive a prize for their work donated by Gloria Stengel Designs.

You have two weeks to prepare and submit your project by linking up. My sample (sneak peek provided!) will be posted next Monday, Feb. 10, but in the meantime, you can check out the A Team Designer's projects and you'll find links on the CHAC Blog

The deadline for linking up is Sunday, Jan. 16 at midnight PST.

The next challenge will be posted on Monday, February 17 and run for two weeks, with samples posted both weeks. It could be a sketch challenge, a color challenge, a mood-board challenge, a theme challenge, a manufacturer challenge, you name it. We want you to USE YOUR HOARDED paper, tools, adhesives, and do-dads! For complete details, please click here.

Coming clean. . .

Gloria Designs Challenge
It's time to come clean: I'm a hoarder. . .of crafting supplies. Thankfully, so is my friend, Gloria Stengel.

I met Gloria about three years ago through Christian Paper Crafters where we were both challenge hostesses. Gloria loves the Lord, has amazing talent and has served on teams for some of the leading names in paper crafting, yet she remains humble and gracious (just ask her! ;-) ) Did I mention she has a wonderful sense of humor? An engineer by training, she is also a homeschool mom about to work herself out of job. Two of her three are off to college, and the youngest isn't far behind. (She also loves cats, but don't tell her I told you that!)

The many long hours of design team work took a physical toll and the doctor ordered Gloria to STOP in order to mitigate the damage to her back. . .no more eight plus hours a day of Design Team (DT) work. So she did. . .mostly. She started cleaning out her craft studio (which is next to her school marm's desk) and came to the quick realization that she is . . . a HOARDER! Gasp! So she decided to start her own challenge blog, Craft Hoarders Anonymous Challenge Blog, encouraging others to dig into their stashes (and we all have plenty of them) and utilize their diverse talents. And . . she put out a call for a DT to help out.

After being blessed to serve on the Our Daily Bread Designs Challenge Team for two years, I stepped down at the end of 2013 planning to just enter a few challenges and spend some time looking at the beautiful work of others. And then I saw it: Gloria put out a call for her first ever DT and the first requirement was that you had to be a craft supply hoarder. Uh oh. . .in went the application. . .and last week I got an email that was a bit like Charlie opening up the Wonka bar and seeing the shimmer of gold! (Fans of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory/Willy Wonka will know what I mean!) Congratulations to the rest of the team! Looking forward to working with you!

So, the first and third Monday of each month we will post a challenge for you. It could be a sketch challenge, a color challenge, a mood-board challenge, a theme challenge, a manufacturer challenge, you name it. We want you to USE YOUR HOARDED paper, tools, adhesives, and do-dads! For complete details, please click here.

We celebrate not the birth of a baby

. . .But the incarnation of God! Emmanuel: God with us!

And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2: 8-11

Our King and Judge

He reigns! While we celebrate the first coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and His birth, we must remember that though He became as us, He has always been and will always be the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Even now, He is ruling and reigning bringing all things into subjection until that grand and glorious day when He comes again! And this time, it will not be as meek and lowly infant offering salvation to all who will repent and believe, but as the righteous judge.  Are you ready to meet Him?
Thou Who Wast Rich Beyond All Splendor
(Click the title for a beautiful rendition of this hymn)
Thou who wast rich beyond all splendor,
All for love’s sake becamest poor;
Thrones for a manger didst surrender,
Sapphire-paved courts for stable floor.
Thou who wast rich beyond all splendor,
All for love’s sake becamest poor.
Thou who art God beyond all praising,
All for love’s sake becamest man;
Stooping so low, but sinners raising
Heavenward by thine eternal plan.
Thou who art God beyond all praising,
All for love’s sake becamest man.
Thou who art love beyond all telling,
Saviour and King, we worship thee.
Emmanuel, within us dwelling,
Make us what thou wouldst have us be.
Thou who art love beyond all telling,
Saviour and King, we worship thee.

Project Details

This project was for a tea at our church. As hostess for one of the tables (a cowboy themed table of course!), I wrapped up the ornaments that were being given in little packages and used Our Daily Bread Designs Stamps to decorate the inside card and outside tag.

As a closing note, this is my last project as a member of the ODBD Challenge Team.  I have been so blessed to serve for two years and will so miss the daily chats with my "sister sticks" and our "boss lady" Kelley. I am most thankful for all of the behind the scenes encouragement as well as the encouragement from our faithful ODBD supporters and sisters in Christ.  It has been a joy to serve and I look forward to seeing and encouraging the new Challenge Team members! Blessings!

Project Details

Instead of making a card with a fancy or alternative fold, I opted for something a bit different. . .a tea light gift set. I started with making a box for tags and then saw this clever pattern for a folding tree (SplitCoast Stampers Tutorials) and decided that's what the box would hold. Once the tree is disassembled and folded flat, the card layers on top, followed by the insert with the angled "Merry Christmas" and topped with the tea light.

For assembly, everything is removed from the box, which is turned upside down. Then, the white panel is inserted into the card and both are placed a top the box. The card then becomes the "skirt" and platform for the tree, beginning with the tea light "trunk" upon which the tree rests, followed by the topper (two brads glued together on a toothpick.) It all came together well, thanks to the ODBD's beautiful paper, stamps and dies!
