But
he was pierced for our transgressions, he was bruised for our
iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his
stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:5
But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our
Lord Jesus Christ.

When I Survey The Wondrous Cross
Isaac Watts, 1707
When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of glory died,
My richest gain I count but loss,
And pour contempt on all my pride.
On which the Prince of glory died,
My richest gain I count but loss,
And pour contempt on all my pride.
Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,
Save in the death of Christ my God!
All the vain things that charm me most,
I sacrifice them to His blood.
See from His head, His hands, His feet,
Sorrow and love flow mingled down!
Did e’er such love and sorrow meet,
Or thorns compose so rich a crown?
Were the whole realm of nature mine,
That were a present far too small;
Love so amazing, so divine,
Demands my soul, my life, my all.

Love that grunge cross and your colors! Love the verse too - and the song by Watts. Thank you so much for sharing this card and the thoughts behind it!
ReplyDeleteJan, this is gorgeous. Beautiful way to frame out the Scripture. The cross next to the verse is the perfect reminder of the victory we have in our Lord Jesus Christ through His sacrifice on the cross. What a blessing!

ReplyDeleteWonderful work of art. The cross is one of my favorites! The dp is a subtle reminder of the suffering that Jesus did for our sins. That we might be set free!
