Passing away or eternally alive?

The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the
will of God lives forever. 1 John 2:17
This scripture seems to imply that we can earn eternal life by doing what God requires. . .but that's not what the rest of Scripture teaches. . nor what this passage in its context teaches either. There is only One who has fulfilled the will of the Father perfectly, and that One, is the Lord Jesus Christ. We can never trust our own works, which the Lord says are like filthy rags (to put it politely). We can only trust the works of Jesus: His life of perfect obedience to the Father, to the point of death on the cross after enduring the Father's wrath for the sins of all who will believe. We are not, and cannot ever be, through works of our own, good enough to merit eternal life. Jesus, however is and He offers this perfect righteousness to all who will repent and believe. ODBD Shining the Light Challenge #112

Since it is officially summer in the USA this week, the Our Daily Bread Designs’ Challenge team wants to see your summer-themed projects. They can include gardening, boats, and etc….anything related to a summer activity.

One of my favorite summer activities is relaxing with my husband under the canopy of trees in our yard as the sun is setting, meditating on the goodness of the Lord and watching the dragon flies flit about the pasture (as the cats chase them in their attempt to snag a tasty treat). This card reflects that peaceful time.

To make the challenge even more fun, we will be giving out a $15 gift certificate to be used toward stamps at the Our Daily Bread Designs store!! And, if you use Our Daily Bread Designs stamps, we will again be choosing one to two creations to spotlight for our Shining the Light Award. All submissions must be added to Mr. Linky by Friday, June 22 at 8 a.m. EST. Complete details are available on the ODBD blog.
Please take a bit of time to visit  my fellow challenge team members blogs, you'll be blessed!
